FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Dozens of officers with Fargo Police will be in Washington, D.C. this week to honor Officer Jake Wallin, who was shot and killed during an ambush last summer.

Money was raised and donated to the Badges of Unity Fund to cover expenses for the Wallin family and police to travel to National Police Week.

Officer Zach Robinson will be awarded the TOP COPS award by the National Association of Police Organizations.

Officer Wallin’s sacrifice will forever be memorialized when his name is inscribed onto the National Law Enforcement Memorial.

Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Martin who was killed in December near Hazen will also be honored.

KVRR’s TJ Nelson attended the services 7 years ago when the same honor was given to fallen Fargo Police Officer Jason Moser.

This year’s events are already underway as dozens of police officers headed out on a memorial bike ride honoring their fallen colleagues.

National Police Week events run May 11-16.
