WAHPETON, N.D. (KVRR) – Welding students at NDSCS-Fargo helped fulfill an odd request throughout the Spring semester; a cage to help transport a rhino.

The cage was requested by the Chahinkapa Zoo after the first cage they had purchased was destroyed by Gunner, a rhino that was being relocated to another zoo.

Casey Buskohl and his students worked with zoo curator Tom Schmaltz to design and fabricate a brand new cage that would improve on some of the weaknesses of the first cage.

Buskohl says that unusual projects like this are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students.

Gunner was able to be transported safely to his new home at the Safari North Wildlife Park in Brainerd, Minnesota.
