Fire causes significant damage to downtown Fargo apartment building

FARGO (KVRR) – A downtown Fargo apartment building was evacuated Wednesday morning as a fire caused significant damage to the structure.

The fire at 355 4th Ave. North was reported shortly before 7:00 a.m.

Fargo police officers were helping residents escape when fire crews arrived.

Battalion Chief Brad Bessette says crews found a fire involving the exterior of the northeast corner of the building, with fire extending into the attic and heavy smoke pushing out of the eaves and roof vents.

The fire burned a hole through the northeast corner of the building. Damages were limited to the north half of the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
