Minnesota State Patrol sees rising issue on the roads: Speeding

MINNESOTA (KVRR) — Seatbelts save lives and it is the law to wear one, which is why Minnesota Department of Public Safety ran their Click It or Ticket campaign from May 20th through June 2nd.

More than 1,900 citations were given out for seat belt violations while there were 108 child restraint citations, as well.

While there were more citations filed last year, one issue is starting to become more and more prevalent in Minnesota according to State Patrol.

And that is the issue of speeding.

“Over the last few years, we’ve been seeing our speeds increase on an almost daily basis of 100 miles per hour on our roads of Minnesota. With that extra enforcement, we hope to be able to bring that down because it results in a lot of crashes. When we look at our serious injury and fatal crashes, what’s the number one factor that are causing these crashes and again it’s speeds.” says, Sgt. Jesse Grabow, Minnesota State Patrol.

According to the Department of Public Safety, around 270 agencies were involved with this Click It or Ticket Campaign.
