Thunderstorms with heavy rain, strong winds roll through Red River Valley

FARGO (KVRR) – A severe thunderstorm brought large amounts of rain and strong winds across the region overnight.

In Fargo, city crews were busy cleaning up debris from trees and branches that fell across streets and boulevards.

A large portion of a tree was blocking traffic in both directions along 14th Ave. S. near Olivet Church.

Another tree that was believed to be struck by lightning was being cleaned up on 18th Ave. South.

The Fargo-Moorhead area received approximately a half-inch to about an inch of rain, along with wind gusts of 50-60 mph.

More than 4 inches of rain fell in Crookston, Minnesota, where downtown streets were impassable due to standing water.

About 1.5 inches fell in Grand Forks.

There were also numerous reports of hail across the region.
