Man In Deadly Shooting Near Frazee Claims Self-Defense

BECKER, CO., Minn. (KVRR/KFGO) — The suspect in a fatal shooting near Frazee, Minnesota Saturday is claiming self-defense.

31-year-old Willis McDonald told deputies that he was visiting a woman he had met days before when 31-year-old Arlan Bergstrom Jr. broke his car window and began punching him.

McDonald says he reached for his handgun and shot him as he continued to punch him.

About a half hour later, he called authorities and said he shot Bergstrom in self-defense.

He was arrested at his Otter Tail County home about an hour later.

The woman’s description of events closely matches McDonald’s.

He is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.
