Wildfire Smoke Poses Health Concerns

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Throughout the past week we have been seeing a lot of smoke around the region once again.
It has been coming from wildfires in South Dakota and Montana, blowing east due to the flow of air in the upper atmosphere.
The smoke has covered the skies and led to poor air quality that can lead to health issues.
It is also especially dangerous to those with underlying health concerns, like COPD and asthma.
“We would recommend staying inside, keeping windows shut and keeping windows shut in the car, said Stephanie Rieniets, a Sanford respiratory therapist.
Those that have lung conditions and are already on prescribed medications, making sure that they are staying on those medications, using the rescue inhalers as prescribed. And if they’re still not seeing any relief, that’s when you’d want them to seek medical attention.”
Regardless of underlying health issues, it’s important to avoid prolonged exposure to wildfire smoke.
