DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (KVRR) — New details about a shots fired incident that officers responded to this week in Devils Lake that sent a school into lockdown.

Court documents show Joseph Gleason broke into his ex-wife’s house and demanded she give him a shotgun and ammo and threated to kill himself.

Officers responded to his home in the 300 block of 12th Street NW around 1:30 in the morning on Monday for a welfare check and heard gunshots.

An officer identified himself and Gleason pointed a shotgun in his direction through a window.

Officers retreated and eventually left the residence.

Another officer later made contact with Gleason through text and he surrendered around 2 p.m. Monday.

Officers found a shotgun and evidence that he had fired it three times through a door.

He is charged with terrorizing, reckless endangerment and burglary and remains in custody.

No bond was set at a hearing Thursday.  His next court date has not been set.
