Dockworkers’ Strike Has Local Businesses Preparing For Coming Days

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Thousands of dockworkers went on strike Tuesday across thirty-six ports from Maine to Texas. And now businesses are being told to prepare to stock up on supplies for the coming days.

“We’ve heard from them is try to order as much as possible and stock up. So any of the dry grocery items.. Yes we can stock up those grocery items. But as far as the seafood goes unless you freeze them up it’s not going to work,” said Sonnet Manandhar, Marketing Manager at Fargo Fresh Groceries.

Fargo Fresh Groceries just put an order in for more dry grocery items yesterday. While they don’t see much changing now, they do want to prepare customers for the changes in prices.

“A couple years timeline we started the prices going down a little bit, but not as much. But now with this strike, I’m even thinking it might go to the price level that we had experienced during COVID,” said Manandhar.

While experts say consumers will not notice any shortages now, if the strike continues into the coming weeks it is possible. Another business in Fargo, Deep Blue Seafood, had stated that they won’t see an impact on their business. But if the strike goes on for over a month, then they could start getting concerned.
