Large Fire Reported at Taracon Precast Near Hawley, MN

HAWLEY, Minn. (KVRR/KFGO 845PM UPDATE)  — Crews from at least ten fire departments were called on to fight a large fire at Taracon Precast northwest of Hawley which broke out late this afternoon.

Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting says the Hawley and Glyndon fire departments were dispatched first and reported heavy, black smoke at the site.

The company reported that 250 containers of gasoline and other flammable materials were inside the building.

A mutual aid call then went out prompting a response from all fire departments in Clay County and nearby departments in Becker and Norman Counties.

Smoke could be seen for several miles coming from north of Highway 10.

Sheriff Empting says, “So when the call came into us originally, we were advised that there were about 250 containers of gasoline and oil, so there was a concern for that. Therefore, the State Fire Marshall’s Office was contacted to request the Moorhead Fire Department Hazmat team to respond. They did respond in a limited fashion, because they also sent their ladder truck out here as well. So we thank them for the resources, and all fire departments for the resources they were able to bring out to this fire.”
