Red Lake woman sentenced for the death of a child

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KVRR) — A Red Lake woman has been sentenced to 15 months in prison following the death of a child in her care.
The trial evidence showed Sharon Rosebear, 64, intentionally deprived a child of necessary food and health care over the course of 2022.
The child died from the combined effects of starvation and infection. Julius Fineday, Sr. pleaded guilty to one count of felony child neglect causing the death of a child and was sentenced to five years in prison earlier this year.
On April 29, Rosebear was found guilty of felony child neglect following a six-day trial in U.S. District Court.
Chief Judge Schiltz says, “One of the most tragic things about Minor A’s death is that it was so easily preventable … day after day, week after week, month after month, Ms. Rosebear watched as Minor A slowly starved to death.”
