TSA’s Baggage Reminders Ahead of Holiday Travel
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — TSA agents have seen a variety of weapons and other items many people have brought with them to the airport. TSA’s Federal Security Director at Hector International reminds people that bringing these items will slow down processing.
“You know the biggest thing is preparations being prepped for the time it’s going to take you to get you through the airport. Because not only is TSA busier, the airlines are busier up front. So give yourself that time to check up front. Check your bag before you pack it, make sure it’s sanitized with no potential prohibited item,” said David Durgan, Federal Security Director for TSA North Dakota.
Items like guns, dumbbells, bats, and snow globes are some of the many items that the TSA have found here at the airport. One of the most common is guns.
“We do have a high number of guns that are being found around the country. I think we’re upwards of 5,000 so far this year across the nation. We have found six here at Fargo so far this year, hopefully we don’t see anymore,” said Durgan.
While guns can be brought to the airplane in a hard shelled case as a checked bag, they do want to remind people that other items packaged up will be opened.
“A lot of people wrap their packages, and unfortunately we may have to unwrap those packages. So we encourage people not to wrap them before they travel. And I know they get upset about that at times, but you know with a little thought ahead of time just wait till you get to the other end,” said Durgan.
Passengers also traveling into the airport are recommended to obtain their Real ID ahead of the May deadline. As not only will it speed up the process within line, but it will make sure you are on time.
If you have any questions regarding an item you want to bring on your travels make sure to check the TSA website.
