Update: One person dead in police-involved shooting in south Fargo

FARGO (KVRR) – Fargo police responded to an officer-involved shooting Wednesday in the area of 6100 block of 61st Ave. S.

The incident happened around 10:50 a.m.

Preliminary information indicates officers were called to a medical assist for a suicidal person inside a residence. Police say upon arrival, officers learned that the 65-year-old person was armed inside the home.

Police attempted to speak with the person. After a period of time, the person exited the house with a handgun and officers fired their weapons. The person was dead at the scene.

The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is being conducted by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
