Community Rallies Behind Moorhead Woman Fighting Brain Tumor

Andi Olsonawski and her family of four were on their way to a Sheyenne game on September 11th.

“I thought I had allergies,”says Andi Olsonawski.

It began with a headache. Seconds later she felt faint. Her husband rushed her to the ER. After an MRI the doctor held their hands and told them the news that would rock their world.

“Nobody has that knowledge of what our future holds. I know my kids are going to be okay because they’re good kids,” says Andi.

Andi was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumor.

“I think the biggest thing that we’ve been on this journey is just to see how much fight she has in her. Every step of the way, every step of this journey, she’s continued to be a warrior,” says her husband, Mark Olsonawski.

These past months have been an emotional roller coaster ride. Through this journey the family was able to find a silver lining.

“To see how the community has come together and is just willing to give everything to support. And just make us feel like we have hope and that Andi is going to win this fight.” says Mark.

Families and friends came together a few weeks ago to organize a benefit dinner for Andi. Friends Nicole Hofer and Lynn Kotrba wanted to show their appreciation.

“I think they’re more than just a friend. They’re part of our family. We’re raising our kids together. We need them probably more than they needed us for this,” says friend Nicole Hofer.

Andi finishes her latest round of chemotherapy on Monday She says she plans to keep on fighting.
