High Schools Students Fill The Dome for 18th Year
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Local students collect nearly 120,000 pounds of food and around $30,000 in donations for the 18th annual Fill the Dome.
That is enough to provide more than 99,600 meals for those in need.
Fill the Dome has united more than 50 schools to collect food and funds to support food pantries and soup kitchens in the region.
The event began with the goal of filling the Fargodome floor with food.
This year, students hosting the event over two days named it, “Round Up Hunger – Yeehaw for a Cause.”
“Fill the dome is more than the numbers we bring in. More than the food you see here. It’s about the impact we are making in our community and the bringing together of so many schools across the area to achieve one common goal,” said Kendall Jones, Senior at Shanley High School.
“While they look like a can or a box it’s really so much more,” said Melissa Sobolik, Great Plains Food Bank CEO.
To date, Fill The Dome has provided over 2.5 million pounds of food and raised over $840,000 to fight hunger.
