Horace Man Accidentally Discharges Firearm, Injures Self

The man was able to administer first aid to himself while waiting for first responders.

HORACE, N.D. – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call coming from Horace at about 10:15 on the evening of November 29 regarding a man who had fired a gun and suffered an injury.

Through an initial investigation, deputies learned the incident was caused by an unintentional discharge of a handgun, and the bullet struck the individual who was handling the firearm.

The man said that he had forgotten to clear the weapon prior to cleaning it. He was still able to provide first aid to himself while waiting for the first responders, who then transported him to a hospital. His current status has not been disclosed at this time.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is taking this opportunity to remind the public of the critical importance of following proper firearm safety protocols.  They say to always ensure firearms are unloaded before handling, cleaning, or performing maintenance.
