Fire crews respond to mechanical room fire in Perficient Tower

FARGO, N.D. — Fargo fire crews responded to a fire in the basement of the Perficient Tower in south Fargo.
The fire started in a mechanical room in the basement of the building.
Crews were able to put out the fire within 10 minutes of arriving on scene thanks to the building’s fire suppression system.
An eye witness reported seeing smoke billowing out of an exhaust pipe located in the back of the building.
According to Fargo fire, it is part of an exhaust system that is made to send smoke from a fire outside of the building.
“There’s a exhaust system that is designed and built to exhaust smoke from the parking garage in incidents like this. This system did exactly what it was supposed to do and it was actually very nice and easy for crews to advance on that fire, find its location as the majority of the smoke and heat was ventilating to the outside,” said Battalion Chief Jason Ness.
A damage estimate is not available at this time as crews are still investigating the cause of the fire.
