Fargo City Commissioner Speaks Out On Deadly Shooting of United Healthcare’s CEO

Denise Kolpack

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — A Fargo city commissioner who is also a former Blue Cross-Blue Shield North Dakota executive is speaking out

Fargo City Commissioner Denise Kolpack worked at Blue Cross-Blue Shield for 16 years as the Senior Vice President of Brand and Communications.

Her role involved branding and advertising the company and its insurance plans.

“It’s a very complex industry and I know it continues to have issues as health care costs increase and premium costs increase, but violence is never the answer,” said Denise Kolpack, Commissioner.

Kolpack’s comment comes after so many Americans have expressed confusion or disdain with health care and insurance costs.

“It’s a tragedy and it’s horrible to see that if someone is concerned about an issue or we’re in a society where the answer is killing somebody. I’m concerned about civility when it rises to that level,” said Kolpack.

We contacted Blue Cross-Blue Shield North Dakota for a comment.

The company says “Our thoughts and condolences are with Mr. Thompson’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time…We are always enhancing those programs to make sure we are maintaining a secure environment where everyone feels safe and protected.”

While Kolpack no longer works for Blue Cross, she has received threats being a commissioner.

She states that there are protocols in place to protect commissioners.
