Owner of ‘Jazzy and Mumbos’ Thrift Store Seeking Support From Community

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — Cowan this past year received the diagnosis of stage four metastatic colon cancer, a cancer that forms in the colon and spreads to other parts of the body. Her family is working hard to make sure Cowan is able to keep fighting and Cowan has been keeping her head lifted through it all.

“She’s so strong she hasn’t even really cried or anything like you would assume someone would after finding this out but she’s the strongest woman that I know. She hasn’t broken down like the rest of us have,” said Morgan Cowan, Daughter of Wendy Cowan.

Morgan and her parents have a close bond, even while she no longer lives with them she is making a commitment to see her mom as much as she can.

“We tell each other everything, we’re always there for each other. Family comes first sort of thing and it’s kind of like we’re best friends and we’re not necessarily they’re not just my parents. So, we can be very mean to each other, cuss words are thrown,” said Morgan Cowan.

Their family dynamic keeps them close, while Wendy and her husband Todd don’t like to share their affection openly; they are close with one another.

“Well they have tough love, so they joke around a lot. It’s very, some would say brutal, so she would just roll her eyes and say whatever,” said Morgan Cowan.

Wendy’s other passion lies in her work. For the past 15 years, Cowan has run her animal aid thrift store.

“She started it because there was a situation where a pet needed help and she was like why don’t I help more pets and so she started it. And she’s helped over thousands of pets with medical bills and just pets around the community,” said Morgan Cowan.

Cowan and her family are working to keep that mission afloat and are working on several fundraisers to do so.

A silent auction will be held February 8th at Hooligans.
