Crash in Barnes County Results in Missing Dog

The dog was later located and reunited with her family.

BARNES COUNTY, N.D. – A crash at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 26 led to a brief search for a missing dog.

The crash happened at 4:01 P.M. on December 26 near Dazey, North Dakota.

A 2016 Chevrolet Malibu was northbound on Hwy. 1 being driven by Shelby Olson. Olson approached the intersection with Hwy. 26 and t-boned a 1997 Peterbilt towing a 2019 Wilson trailer being driven by Jack Fehr.

Olson’s vehicle did have the right of way at the intersection, and the crash was caused by Fehr’s failure to yield.

Shelby and Charles Olson were transported by Barnes County Ambulance to CHI Mercy Hospital in Valley City for non-life-threatening injuries.

However, in the chaos, a dog named Daphne that had been with the Olsons ran off into a slough area.

The Barnes County Sheriff’s Office later posted on Facebook that Daphne had been found safe and reunited with her family.
