The Chamber Will Testify Against Bill To Reinstate Sunday Blue Laws

Blue Laws

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber announces that they oppose reinstating the Sunday morning closing laws in North Dakota.

Also known as Sunday Blue Laws, it prohibits certain businesses from being open from midnight until noon on Sundays.

Most businesses that would be affected would be categorized under retail outlets like clothing, jewelry, and vehicles.

The Blue Laws were repealed in 2019.

But Republican Representatives Heilman, Hoverson, J. Johnson, Meier, Schatz, and Senators Clemens and Luick want the laws reinstated.

The Chamber will be testifying on Wednesday to oppose the bill.

“We’re very worried that if enacted it would have a negative impact on our local economy, workforce, and overall quality of life for the citizens that live in our community. And really the Chamber represents a diverse range of businesses that all rely on flexibility to operate seven days a week and meet the needs of customers and employees,” said Katherine Grindberg, Executive Vice President Chamber.

The bill is scheduled to have a public hearing on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in the North Dakota House Industry, Business and Labor Committee.
