Former Moorhead Spud Goalies Find Their Ways to Law Enforcement
Beth, Lydia, and Betsy vary slightly in age, but all have found fulfilling careers as police officers.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – “I don’t know what it is about hockey, especially Moorhead hockey,” says Moorhead police officer Beth Jutting.
“It’s just – you feel this huge sense of community, not just between your team, but everyone supporting you, all the parents and everyone else.”
She has fond memories of her time on the ice as a Moorhead Spud. Beth attended the school from 2009 to 2013, sharing the goalie position at points with two other girls – Betsy Miller and Lydia Norwig.
Little did they know that all three of them would go on to be law enforcement officials.
Betsy is in Fargo, Beth is in Moorhead, and Lydia is in the Denver metro area.
They did say that standing in the crease has a strange way of preparing you for patrolling the streets.
“Goalie’s such a mental game, that when we come here, you kind of put your game face on at work and you just go in and do what you gotta do and you take care of things,” said Jutting.
Norwig agreed, saying, “You can lose the game if you don’t perform well, right – and then law enforcement’s obviously a high-stress career as well, you can get put in some really high-stress situations.”
