City of Fargo Encourages Residents to use Transfer Station
Taking your unwanted items to the station eases strain on crews during cleanup weeks and helps the city in their recycling efforts.

FARGO, N.D. – The metro’s annual cleanup week is starting soon, but there’s a place where people in Fargo can get rid of their junk year-round.
The city opened its Residential Transfer Station at the Fargo Landfill in 2021.
With cleanup week occurring the first two weeks in May, the city is encouraging people to take their larger items to the transfer station ahead of time.
This is to avoid those items potentially getting blown into the street or rained on.
It also allows the city to put a greater emphasis on recycling.
“We transformed this building in 2021,” said Jen Pickett, the city’s recycling supervisor, “and since then we have recovered 118 tons of cardboard and close to 500 tons of scrap metal.”
The transfer station does not accept anything with freon, like old refrigerators or AC units.
