Fargo Solid Waste wind turbine taken down due to safety hazard

FARGO — Those who regularly pass the Fargo Landfill may have noticed something missing recently.
The landfill’s wind turbine was taken down on March 12, after it began having issues about six months ago.
The city had the turbine inspected and determined that it was obsolete and was becoming a safety hazard, so they had it taken down.
It was installed nearly 15 years ago and was part of the landfill’s renewable energy program.
The landfill currently generates power through solar panels and methane gas, which they use for operations and sell the excess to power companies.
