Kleinsasser Addresses UND Grads
The recently enshrined College Football Hall of Famer reflected with pride and gratitude on his time in Grand Forks.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR) – The University of North Dakota welcomed one of their most famous alumni to give commencement speeches this year.
Jim Kleinsasser gave the main address for both the graduate and undergraduate degree ceremonies at the Alerus Center.
The Carrington, North Dakota native was a star football player for UND and even won election to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2025.
He went on to spend 13 productive seasons in the NFL as a tight end for the Minnesota Vikings.
Kleinsasser said he forged some of the strongest bonds of his life in Grand Forks.
“UND isn’t just a university. It’s a community. It’s a community that will positively impact you throughout your life if you let it,” he stated,
“Which brings me to my first piece of advice for you. Stay connected.”
Jim will certainly remain connected to the university, as his son, Carter, committed to play football at UND earlier this year.
He’s an edge rusher on defense – but on offense, he’s a tight end, just like his dad.
