North Dakota Workforce Safety and Insurance celebrates second annual Get Home Safe Day

BISMARCK, N.D. — North Dakota Worker Safety and Insurance celebrated its second annual Get Home Safe North Dakota Day.

The program launched one year ago to help make jobs safer for workers.

WSI offers monthly tools, resources, and partnerships to help workers stay safe out in the field.

WSI director Art Thompson says they saw over 1,086 fewer claims filed in North Dakota, despite the fact that the covered workforce grew by over ten thousand workers in that time.

North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong spoke at the event. He said that WSI processed over 17,000 injury claims in 2024.

Armstrong also noted how things have changed in the petroleum industry since the 1980s.

“You used to go to an oil rig in 1983 and the number of fingers versus people wasn’t the same,” Armstrong said. “And you don’t see that anymore. And they take it more seriously and it’s a lot different, and it’s a lot better. And they are great paying jobs. These are things that have grown communities in western North Dakota.”
