Ham Radio Field Day connects people across the globe

Red River Radio Amateurs began broadcasting at 1 P.M. on Saturday, June 28.

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Ham radio enthusiasts hopped on the airwaves this weekend for a nationwide radio celebration.

Red River Radio Amateurs took part in the 92nd Annual Field Day event.

They set up at the Cass County highway department in West Fargo, and starting at 1 in the afternoon on Saturday, began running radio exercises and trying to connect as many other stations as possible.

Organizers say it’s a great way to form bonds with people in all corners of the globe.

“You can do everything from just generally talking to other people, to talking to specifically people in other countries, this is a great easy way for new people to get in and see how our radio would operate and everything like that,” explained Anton O’Neil.

The American Radio Relay League says there are more than 750,000 amateur radio licensees in the US, and an estimated three million worldwide.
