Cass County Sheriff’s Office to begin sweeps of active warrants in a few weeks

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Since 2023, law enforcement had to release over 1,500 people due to overcrowding at Cass County Jail. But now, Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner said those days are soon to be over.

“So now with the new jail pod being ready to be opened here in the next two to three weeks, we want to give people an opportunity to take care of those before we open the doors because once we open the doors, then we’re going to send out people actively to look for people to get those warrants taken care of,” said Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner.

Previously, people who were considered to not be a danger to society were released and were given full responsibility of following up on their court date. But according to Jahner, there are approximately 2,025 active misdemeanor warrants.

“There are people out there that know that they have these warrants, and then I think there’s some people out there that probably don’t know. Or maybe forgot about it because it’s been a couple years since they’ve dealt with a situation,” said Jahner.

The current warrants division that searches for people with warrants has not been as active as it once was. But Jahner says that the division will be going back to being more active. And he hopes that within this time frame, people with active warrants will follow up with the hotline so they do not have to go out in search of them.

“If you have that warrant and you know it’s outstanding and you’re at work and we go look for you at your residence and we can’t find you, we’re going to keep looking for you. We don’t want to disrupt people’s work, we don’t want to affect our local businesses by taking their employees, but we want to put that responsibility back on that person. Over the next three weeks, so they take care of it,” said Jahner.

A warrant hotline is available for people to set up a court date or payment schedule.
Hotline Number: 701-241-1283.
