Officer-Involved Shooting in Walker, Minnesota Leaves Man Hospitalized

The suspect was shot in the arm, then transported to a Bemidji hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

WALKER, MN (KVRR) – Law enforcement says that a police officer in Walker, Minnesota was forced to shoot a suspect in the arm after her charged at the officer while wielding a knife.

Police in Walker received several calls around 6:30 P.M. on August 8 describing a man wearing only boxer shorts and behaving strangely. The calls alleged that he had been seen on Minnesota Avenue, displaying a knife, and that some nearby cars had their tires slashed.

An officer located the man, who then fled on foot. The suspect ran to the Dollar General store on Minnesota Avenue.

Once inside, he reportedly sprayed the officer with bug spray and then threw items at him before charging at him with the knife. That’s when the officer shot the man in the arm. He was taken to a hospital in Bemidji for treatment.

The officer has been placed on critical incident leave. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation and will be releasing the identities of the officer and the suspect at a later date.
