Battle Between City of Horace, Homeowners Continues
Flames were seemingly reignited by a Facebook post in a local community group earlier this week.
HORACE, N.D. (KVRR) – Disputes between homeowners and the city of Horace continue to erupt over special assessments that the homeowners say unfairly raise their mortgage prices.
Back in April, a group of 15 banded together to sue the city over the issue. That case is still being litigated as of writing.
Some involved with that particular case have worked with lenders to make their mortgages more bearable, but not everyone in Horace has been so lucky.
“”One of my neighbors did end up having to foreclose just down the street back in June because no bank would take on their home with $122,000 in specials,” said Brenna Lachowitzer, one of the homeowners involved in the suit.
That hasn’t stopped the city from continuing to dole out special assessments, which recently drew backlash on social media.
The Special Assessment Commission is holding a hearing on Wednesday, August 27, where those impacted by assessments are invited to come speak their minds on the topic.
