Stephen-Argyle Central Elementary wins $10,000 gym makeover award

Gym Award

ARGYLE, Minn. (KVRR) — Stephen-Argyle Central Elementary in Argyle, Minnesota is one of five lucky schools in the country to win a $10,000 gym makeover.

It’s thanks to a collaboration between the American Heart Association and the National Football League Foundation.

They want to encourage young people to learn Hands-Only CPR.

Twenty-two students at Stephen-Argyle Central Elementary learned how to do Hands-Only CPR last school year and that put them in the running for the prize.

Carter Osowski, 6th grader, says, “Cause there’s so many schools in the United States and in Minnesota, there’s probably a whole bunch so it’s like a big option and opportunity to do something and change.”

Scott Groven, P.E. Teacher, says, “The sky’s the limit. I mean, there’s so many opportunities for some pretty cool and neat items.”

But the check wasn’t the only surprise in store for the kids, they also got a special message from a member of the Minnesota Vikings.

Offensive Tackle Walter Rouse says, “What’s up Stephen-Argyle Elementary School? This is Walter Rouse here with the Minnesota Vikings. I just wanted to congratulate you guys on a new $10,000 gym makeover for you guys because of all your hard work and studies in CPR. Now you guys have the power to save a life. Again, congratulations guys and SKOL!”

Last year, the kids took part in two in-school programs, Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge to help achieve this goal.
