Watch: Moorhead High School students walk out for ‘Rally for Justice’ protest

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — Moorhead High School students walked out of class to protest on Wednesday.
The protesters meet at the intersection of second avenue and 21st street, near the underpass.
Adults in support of the students lined up to support the students. Some were part of the groups Moms Against Guns and Indivisible, as well as local clergy.
The students are protesting about local and national issues, such as protesting against recent actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.
But the largest reason seems to be about gun control, and about recent gun incidents at Moorhead High School Career Academy.
“Going into late middle school and high school there have been a number of gun-related threats and actual guns in the building. Which I never thought would happen here,” said high school senior Isabella Anderson. “Like, growing up, I’ve always been like, ‘We practiced the drills and everything, but it’s never going to – but nothing’s ever going to happen.’ But having something that close to people actually having guns in the school – that’s scary.”
Moorhead High School released the following statement on the rally:
“While this was not a district or school sponsored event, Moorhead Area Public Schools supports students’ rights to express their views in a respectful and responsible manner. Our focus during the school day remains on maintaining a safe, orderly learning environment and ensuring that students who choose to participate, or not participate, can do so safely and without disruption to the educational process.”
