New Chapter for Local Bookstore
Facing an uncertain future in their Roberts Alley location, Ferguson Books decided to move under the roof of Daily's Market and rebrand as Fergie's Bookshops.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – It is a short walk across Roberts Alley from the former location of Ferguson Books to the back door of Daily’s Market. But that tiny trek was actually a momentous decision to make for small business owner Dane Ferguson.
Ferguson Books had only been in Roberts Alley for about a year, having previously been located in West Fargo since 2020.
While the move initially seemed promising – financial concerns soon arose.
Ferguson, who once had three bookstores in the state of North Dakota, wasn’t sure if his store would survive.
That was, until the partnership with Daily’s Market came along.
“That’s one of the taglines of Daily’s Market, they have the essentials – well, what’s more essential than your books?” he asked with a laugh.
Now, the rebranded Fergie’s Bookshops is open and operational inside the building.
“There’s a sense of excitement, a sense of relief, and a sense of optimism,” said Ferguson.
The two businesses are not merging, but rather cohabiting under the same roof – an arrangement Ferguson says works for everyone.
He’s hoping the new chapter means Fergie’s can succeed like his new creperie, still located in Roberts Alley, and that he can continue to be a fixture in the downtown Fargo business scene.
Saturday was the close-out, final rummage sale for the old Ferguson Books location.
Furniture and books were available at steep discounts – and there was live music all afternoon long.
