ST. PAUL, Minn. (KVRR) – A Dilworth man has been found guilty by a federal jury in a case of “stolen valor” that involved the theft of $140,000 in veteran benefits.

Mikhail Robin Wicker, also known as Michael Robin Wicker, 39, of Dilworth was convicted of wire fraud, mail fraud, using a false military discharge certificate, and fraudulent use of military medals.

U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen says Wicker spent years posing as a decorated U.S. Marine and falsely claimed to have been deployed to Iraq in 2005.

Federal prosecutors say Wicker falsely claimed to be a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal and the Prisoner of War Medal and relied on those claims to obtain benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

A sentencing hearing will be set at a later date.
