Clean up efforts continue from second winter storm of the season
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — We are into our second day of clean-up efforts, working overtime on the piles and piles of snow.
“The crews have been out there working diligently to get the streets plowed off and put product down there. We have been running around the clock, usually the teams work an eight-hour shift, but we have extended their shifts for twelve hours, so that way we can provide service twenty-four hours a day,” said Corey Houim, City of Fargo Public Works Services Manager.
While plows began to clean on Tuesday, more snow came in overnight, and many roads began to once again fill up with snow.
“We’ve been kind of chasing our tails a little bit, so the teams did start the snow emergency routes, they plowed those twice. And then they started plowing the residential zones last evening,” said Houim.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota State Patrol have reported they have seen over seventy vehicles go off the road on Wednesday. As ice coated interstates from Moorhead to St. Michael.
“In order to keep everybody safe we need to keep that traffic moving at a slow and consistent speed, because even though, let’s say traffic might be doing 30 mph, the next person might be doing 50 or more comes into a situation where it creates a big mess. So it’s just everybody doing their part to again use common sense when you put that vehicle into motion,” said Sgt. Jesse Grabow, Minnesota State Patrol.
Sgt. Jesse Grabow reported on his social media page that a school bus had spun out on the interstate, as he warns drivers to keep a safe distance away from other cars.
“Just take your time if you do find yourself traveling. If there are no travel advisories, obviously take note. It’s not worth putting your safety in jeopardy, so just make good common sense choices each and every time you get in the vehicle,” said Grabow.
As of Wednesday evening, many of the streets have been plowed, and snow plows are going to continue to work until Thursday morning.
