MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — People at Minnesota State Moorhead got a chance to hear the stories of women currently serving in the military.

The university held the panel event, Speaking of Service: Her Voice, as part of National Women’s History Month.

Two of the women speakers are currently serving in the North Dakota National Guard and one panelist is a graduate of MSUM and married to a service member.

The women talked about their personal experience with military life, and the difficulties in balancing that life with their civilian careers while raising a family.

Danelle Wolnik also served in the North Dakota National Guard and hosted the event. She says she has seen women make great strides since she first served.

“When I first joined, it was very – you saw a lot more male leadership,” Wolnik said. “And now you’re seeing a lot more females coming into those positions and it’s really great to see.”

The speaking event was a collaboration of Minnesota State Moorhead, the university’s Veteran Success Team, Dragon Student Veterans Club, and Women’s Center.
