Extending 1% infrastructure sales tax up to Fargo voters in June

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Voters in Fargo will have their say in June about whether or not to extend the one percent sales tax for infrastructure

Fargo’s current sales tax is at 2.25%.

That includes 1% for flood control which expires in 2084, 1% for infrastructure which ends in December 2028 and a .25% for public safety which expires in December 2045.

That compares to 2% in both Bismarck and Minot and 2.5% in West Fargo.

The infrastructure tax can only be used for flood control water, waste water and streets.

“We are focusing on needs not wants. Ensuring that Fargo’s infrastructure remains safe, reliable and prepared for the future,” said Assistant City Administrator Brenda Derrig.

Commissioner Dave Piepkorn was the only member to vote against putting the tax on the June ballot.
