City of Moorhead asks residents for feedback on upcoming 1st Avenue project
MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — The project is part of an ongoing major renovation planned in downtown Moorhead.
“Looking at 1st Avenue is really kind of a mobility corridor for both automobiles, but also for bikes and pedestrians. We really want to make sure the corridor is safe and is connected,” said Wade Kline, KLJ Engineering.
The project continues further down the road of the underpass construction from 1st Avenue North by 12th St to Center Ave. As discussions have been made over the last few years regarding deteriorating pavement, medians, and concerns for pedestrians walking or biking.
“So, this is just one of many projects that has been planned. Just really, infrastructure gets old, infrastructure needs to be replaced. Part of the strategy here is to figure out what’s the best timing for this 1st Avenue reconstruction in relations, specifically, to more of the MNDOT work, the Department of Transportation work that’s coming up over the next three to four years,” said Kline.
To discuss further on these concerns, the city of Moorhead has recently published a map for feedback on certain items. Currently, there have been over 20 replies made with concerns varying from turning onto Center Ave, traffic build ups, and moving the sidewalks.
“At this point, it’s part of the process where we want to hear from residents. You know, there is a good opportunity to provide ideas and suggestions that we can take those into process before we get too far into the design phase and it’s tough to make changes. Now is the time, and we’re all ears to hear what the community is interested in,” said Kline.
Kline says they expect to gather all the feedback and decide on a plan moving forward no later than August.
