Oklahoma woman accused of impersonating Alexandria business to try and steal $1.7 million from Wahpeton

WAHPETON, N.D. (KVRR) — A Tulsa, Oklahoma woman is accused of trying to steal $1.7 million from the City of Wahpeton through an electronic transfer.
Court documents show Kim Elliot posed as Nancy Knight with Central Specialties of Alexandria.
Wahpeton’s finance director was familiar with the company since the city had a street project with them totaling over $1.7 million.
When she was sent the banking information, she determined it was not associated with Central Specialties.
The routing and account information was traced to Oklahoma and BMO Bank.
It was also determined that Elliot used the company’s logo, address, phone number and website to impersonate Knight.
Elliot is charged with felony attempted theft or deception over $50,000.
A warrant for her arrest was issued last Friday.
