MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) — Clay County Commissioners unanimously approve an area where hunters can use rifles to hunt deer.

It is based on Minnesota DNR deer permit boundaries in areas 666 and 239.

Hunters can use rifles from Highway 9 from the Clay-Norman line to Highway 10, then from Highway 32 to 34 and I-94 to the Clay-Wilkin line.

Areas west of that line will remain a shotgun only zone in Clay County.

A change in Minnesota law eliminated a shotgun-only zone for much of the state and left it up to counties to decide.

The DNR deadline for adoption of new rules is May 5.
