FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Federal investigators are looking into the cause of a small plane crash on Saturday that killed Rep. Liz Conmy of Fargo and the pilot.

Conmy’s fellow lawmakers have expressed their shock and profound sorrow at losing one of their own so abruptly.

Representative LaurieBeth Hager of Fargo worked closely with Conmy in Bismarck, and the two retained a close personal friendship here in Fargo.

Hager says she’s still hardly processed the news and feels especially awful for her fellow lawmakers four children.

She said Conmy had that magical ability to light up a room and everyone, across the entire political spectrum in the legislature, will miss her dearly.

“Liz had so much energy. She was always laughing or causing people to laugh, so she was just very fun to be around. When you’re working in a legislative session, it’s very intense, it’s great to have someone bring laughter and joy into your daily life.

We’re a family. It’s not just Democrats that are a family. We’re all one big family out there. Crazy family, don’t always get along family – but this loss is everybody’s loss,” said Hager.

Conmy was first elected to the House in 2022 and was running for re-election at the time of her passing.
