PARK RAPIDS, Minn. (KVRR) — Several people are out of a home and a dog has died in a house fire in rural Park Rapids, Minnesota on Saturday.

Park Rapids Fire Department responded to the house along County 6 and found the attached garage on fire and they could hear dogs barking inside.

Two of the dogs were rescued while they knocked down the fire in the garage but it had spread into the house and attic due to a lack of a firewall.

A third dog was found and treated with oxygen while a fourth dog was found dead.

The house is a total loss.

During the investigation, they discovered an extension cord being used for a heat lamp on a cardboard box of chicks.

The official cause is still under investigation.

The people displaced by the fire had housing lined up before firefighters cleared the scene.
