Rape and Abuse Crisis Center reveals new name and location
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — For decades, the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center has been an integral part of serving the Cass, Clay, and Wilkin counties. Now the center is evolving into a new home with a new name, Sollera.
“Sollera will take care of this community for the next fifty years. It will, with honor, take the torch from Rape and Abuse Crisis Center and lead our community towards a violence-free society,” said Dr. Christopher Johnson, Chief Executive Officer for Rape and Abuse Crisis Center of Fargo-Moorhead.
The name change comes after feedback from a survey showed many did not know whether they qualified for services. And that the original name had become a barrier.
“We were seeing this trend of people feeling as though their victimization had to reach a certain level of violence to qualify for services. And that is not true. There is no criteria. If you don’t feel safe, you don’t feel safe. And this agency is here to help you navigate that,” said Johnson.
Each year, the center has served just over 4,000 people of all ages. But the concerns that have come up over the last seven years include domestic and sexual violence, with cases leading to death.
According to the North Dakota Domestic and Sexual Violence Coalition, in 2025, over 6,200 people in North Dakota were victims of domestic violence. In 21% of cases, guns were used, and in 16%, knives were used.
“We’re just seeing some really, really troubling trends happening right now in violent interactions. And so we know that prevention is key. We know that getting ahead of these issues is really our only option as a community,” said Johnson.
As the construction continues to take place before the opening date, the center is looking forward to working with its community to expand its services.
The new location will open beginning June 1st at 415 4th St. North, Fargo.
