FARGO (KVRR) — ‘Only Rain Down the Drain.’

The City of Fargo has recently launched its public awareness campaign to make residents aware about storm drains.

The campaign’s message is to remind residents that storm drains flow directly into local waterways and are not designed to filter trash, chemicals or contaminants.

Over the spring and summer months, three billboards will be displayed throughout Fargo with themed messages.

Messages include Keep leaves, grass clippings and trash out of streets and storm drains, and more.

“You know, some people want to think it goes to the treatment plant,” said City of Fargo Engineer Rob Hasey. “So if they’re working on a car, and there’s some oil that gets spilled, they might just think, ‘Well, it’s going to get treated.’ But we just want to make people aware that they need to clean up their mess and just be mindful of what goes in the river.”

More information on the campaign will be posted on the City of Fargo’s social media throughout the summer.
