WASHINGTON, D.C. (KVRR) — The Senate Military Construction Appropriations Committee is hearing about work to advance funding for a Space Operations Center at Grand Forks Air Force Base.

U.S. Space Force has proposed a $250 million facility which could bring hundreds of Guardians to the base in addition to three other locations.

Sen. John Hoeven reviewed the president’s request with a senior Space Force official.

“We anticipate that these facilities will be housing approximately 800 guardians working 24/7 continuous, uninterrupted operations in support of our combatant commands,” said Kathryn Kolbe with U.S. Space Force.

Kolbe oversees installations and logistics for the U.S. Space Force.

“We look forward to working with the Space Force to fund this project through the annual appropriations process so we can start moving forward on design and construction,” said Hoeven.

The design phase of the new facility is expected to start later this year.
