Tim Mahoney reflects on his time as mayor and challenges he has faced

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — “A lot of stuff that I like to enjoy is somebody calls you in the morning, and then you call Ben Dow and say, ‘ Can we look at this, and the team would look at things and get them solved. I’m very proud of the city of Fargo employees, they’re fantastic. And people don’t understand it, they do a great job of addressing issues, and I really, I’ll miss that,” said Tim Mahoney.

For over a decade, Tim Mahoney has been an integral part of city leadership. From working as a city commissioner, deputy mayor, and finally mayor for the city of Fargo.

“At the time I ran in 14’, we were still vigorously working on the diversion, trying to get flood protection, so that was a big part of my vision. The second part of what I wanted to was what’s called smart growth…So I’m still encouraged people are still moving to Fargo. They think it’s a great place. And we’ve accomplished many of the things that we’ve had to hit,” said Mahoney.

While Mahoney has worked on many projects throughout his time as mayor, there were some challenges that he had faced. Including leading the city through the pandemic, protests, and major floods.

“I’m very pleased where Fargo has landed and where it continues to land. But I’d say to Josh, you’ve got to keep setting that vision of where do we go next. What do we accomplish next,” said Mahoney.

While his time is set to end, Mahoney says he is confident in the new leadership.

“I would always say, have hope. There’s ways in the future that things can be better and brighter.”

Mahoney will have one more city commission meeting, with his final day set for June 30th.
