Kids get chance to touch the past at Fargo Public Library

FARGO — The Fargo Public Library is giving kids a chance to get their hands on artifacts from the past.
Archeologist Amanda Baker gave kids an introduction to the field archeology and how simple mounds or pits can mean people once lived there.
Baker has degrees in archeology and works for Beaver Creek Archaeology in Bismarck.
She also authored a children’s book titled, “Can YOU Dig It?: Archaeology Lost and Found in the Sands of Time,”
Baker says she was inspired to write the book after graduating college.
“It’s specifically for kids because when I got out of college, I recognized that there was a gap between what I had as a kid, and what I was learning as an adult. And I wanted to be able to present that information to kids,” Baker said.
The free event was part of the library’s 2026 Summer Reading Challenge. A showing of the movie “The Land Before Time” is being held at the Dr. James Carlson library on Friday.
