Red River Invaded by Zebra Mussels in Grand Forks

Adult zebra mussels are discovered in the Red River in Grand Forks.

North Dakota Game and Fish found the mussels on Red River sampling equipment at Sorlie Bridge.

They attached to an aluminum pipe approximately three feet below the surface of the water.

The discovery was not a surprise, as one zebra mussel adult was found in Fargo earlier this summer.

Officials are reminding people to thoroughly check for species infestations when pulling and storing fishing piers, boat docks and lifts.
