Groundbreaking for Moorhead’s New Elementary School

A celebration in Moorhead for a new elementary school.

Kids and educators broke ground on Moorhead’s newest elementary school, set to be built at 24th Avenue South and 42nd Street South.

The unnamed school will be for students from Kindergarten through fourth grade.

It will be Moorhead’s fourth elementary school.

Superintendent Lynne Kovash says she expects about 600 students to call the school home when it opens in the fall of 2017.

This school is a reality because of a bond referendum passed by Moorhead voters last November.

Kovash says, “The dream of a lot of people as we worked through this. We worked through this with community people, and they talked about having a new elementary school, and to see it actually being started, the temporary road being put in, our community growing. That’s what’s so important, that growth in our community.”

Kovash adds that the district will enlist the help of Moorhead students to help name the new school.
