Old Moorhead High School Transforms, Memories Stay

One of Moorhead’s historic buildings is now being called home by many.

KVRR’s Sarah Brechbill finds out why these new lofts are just so special.

“We had lockers and study areas and it was a place to be seen in the morning and kind of visit with people, google eye some of the guys you wish you were dating,” says Kathy Coyle, Moorhead High Alumna.

Sitting in her old high school, recalling cherished memories, Kathy Coyle feels like she’s home.

“This place holds a lot of memories. Yeah, and I just lived…now I’m going to get emotional but I just lived a block away,” says Coyle.

But she’s not the only one calling the old Moorhead High School home, since last April FMI construction has been converting the historic building into 45 apartment unit lofts.

And they’re pretty cool, featuring 12 different floor plans.

“However we could fit an apartment into that part of the space, tweaks here and there, really every unit is unique in some way or fashion,” says FMI Chief Operations Officer Chad Cota.

“Each apartment features exposed brick from the original high school dating back from the 1920s.”

And while the amenities are beautiful, Kathy looks at them in a different way.

“It’s not the building so much that was important to us but the people.”

And while some people look at the apartments as memories in the past, others look at it as a future.

“From I went to high school here to this used to be my geometry classroom to wow I’m a new college student and these are the coolest things I’ve seen in Moorhead,” says Cota.

A building that has seen faces come and go, but memories stay.

The lofts feature one, two and three bedroom apartments ranging from 750 to 1150 dollars.

There are still 24 units available.
